Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has already issue a 10 million 1-Piso Jose Rizal commemorative coin last December commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal last June 19, 2011.


Jose Rizal 1 PISO Commemorative Coin Features

1. The face of the coin will features the face of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the 150 years anniversary and markings of year 1861 - 2011 and Republika ng Pilipinas encryption.
2. On the reverse side, the new BSP logo on top of incomplete sun rays and etched 1 PISO and year 2011.
3. The Jose Rizal commemorative coin has a diameter of 24 mm and weighing 5.35 grams same as the current 1 Piso on circulation and it is made of steel plated with nickel. Rizal is on 1 Piso coin to make him accessible to every Filipinos.
4. A total of five billion 1 Piso coins are in circulation today, that is 30% of total coins circulating today.

Dr. Jose P. Rizal , Philippine National Hero was the author of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which led to Philippine Revolution against Spaniards on 1896 after his death on Bagumbayan (Luneta).
