7.6 MAGNITUDE Earthquake HIT 96KM of Sulungan, E. Samar

Latest 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake 96km East of Samar

7.6 Magnitude earthquake was recorded by US Geological Survey (USGS) as of 8:47pm of August 31, 2012 from 96 km East of Sulungan, Eastern Samar Philippines.

PHIVOLCS recorded it as 7.7 intensity earthquake and Tsunami alert level 3 is raised to coastal areas of Surigao del Norte/Sur, Southern Leyte and Northern/Eastern Samar.

Aftershock recorded was 9-10 times as of this writing with maximum of magnitude 6.2.

Earthquake was felt from different near provinces of Davao, Cebu, Catanduanes and as far as Isabela lasting 1 minute to 10 minutes. Parts of provinces near earthquake epicenter suffers blackout.

Everybody is advised for possible tsunami near coastal areas with tsunami warning and watch out for possible more aftershocks.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 1 dead from Cagayan de Oro related from the incident.
