Fix Google Play Services update error in Android Lollipop & Marshmallow





Once you update from Android KitKat 4.4 to Lollipop 5, you are required to update Google Play Services to the latest version. However, while trying to do so many people are encountering errors like Google Play Services not responding | Google Play Services has stopped |Unfortunately Google Play Services Has Stopped. This can get really really annoying especially for people who just purchased a flagship device like Samsung Galaxy S6, Note 4 or HTC One M8, expecting top-class performance both hardware and software-wise. However, this is not a device specific issue but rather a common Android store bug. Fortunately, it’s not a major one and you can fix the Google Play Services error in Lollipop update following the short steps below:

How to Fix Google Play Services error after Android update

  1. Go to Settings >> Apps >> All >> Scroll down and select “Google Play Services” 
  2. Select “Uninstall Updates” >> Click “Okay” (or “accept”) a. Now your Google play services will be reverted to factory version 
  3. Tap “Enable” to enable Google Play Services 
  4. Open Google Play Store and add your Gmail account (sign in) 
  5. Now from inside Google Play Store search “Google Play Services” >> Find it and click “Update”
