Released with the iPhone X in 2017, Face ID replaced Touch ID as a method for users to unlock their device and access some apps. And while the feature has only gotten better with later versions of iOS, if your facial appearance changes enough, there's the risk that your iPhone or iPad no longer recognizes you. Don't panic if this is the case. Apple makes it easy to reset Face ID and set up a new and second or alternate Face ID. Resetting Face ID on your iPhone or iPad can be done in a few minutes.
Now let's walk through how to reset Face ID on your Apple iPhone or iPad.
Step 1. Tap to launch the "Settings" app, and then tap "Face ID & Passcode" in the list of options. The Face ID & Passcode screen appears.
Step 2. Scroll down, and then tap the red "Reset Face ID" text. The Reset Face ID text will go away, and blue Set Up Face ID text will replace it.
Step 3. Tap "Set Up Face ID." The How to Set Up Face ID screen appears. Tap the blue "Get Started" button at the bottom of this screen. You'll go through two face scans before a message appears that Face ID is now set up. Tap the blue "Done" button. You'll be returned to the Face ID & Passcode screen. Any apps you had set up to work with Face ID previously will resume working with Face ID.
