Why does unlocking do?
Unlocking your cellphone will allow you to use it with other GSM carriers by simply swapping the simcard. So if you decide to switch carriers and want to keep using your phone you will need to unlock it. Otherwise the phone will display an error when you try using your new simcard, such as "Enter Network Control Key, "Sim Network Unlock Pin" or "Simcard Not allowed".
