Samsung Expected to Drop Physical Home Button From Galaxy S8
A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Samsung will ditch the physical home button when it launches the Galaxy S8 next year.
Citing “people with direct knowledge of the matter,” it claims that the handset will feature “an all-screen front” for maximum viewing pleasure, and that a virtual home button will be hidden in the glass on its lower section. We imagine the fingerprint sensor could move to the rear of the handset, and the report adds that the S8 will only come with a curved display.
It’s no secret that Samsung is in desperate need of an image boost, and designing its next flagship so it looks noticeably different to the disastrous Note 7 could be seen as the company seeking a fresh start.
A separate report from earlier this week claimed that the company had also decided to do an Apple and drop the headphone jack from the S8. We don’t need to explain just how badly that bit of news is going down.
